Ukiah Brewing & Restaurant becomes the nation's first and only brewpub (and only the second restaurant) to be certified organic. (The first organic eatery is Nora's in Washington, D.C.)

2004

Mendocino County becomes the first county in the United States to ban genetically modified food production by popular vote despite being outspent by the agribiochemical industry by over half a million dollars. The campaign, Measure H, was initiated by Els Cooperrider, co-founder of Ukiah Brewing Company and was headquartered upstairs at the Brewery.
